"De Sterrenloper" - Interactive VR Theater Experience

In a mysterious observatory stands the "Sterrenloper", a cosmic hourglass that controls the flow of time. Stars fall in and turn to dust, becoming the fuel for the universe. But when the last star falls time will stop, meaning the end of what we know; at least, that's Larry's theory. Larry has been working in the observatory for eons by himself, when curious explorers put a mysterious device (VR Headset) on their heads and get transported to this strange place.
De sterrenloper is a multiplayer co-located VR experience, meaning everyone can see and interact with eachother in the virtual space. Larry, played by an actor (me) guides the players through the observatory, showing off his peculiarities and experiments with time and space. During these interactions he will ask the player questions, focussing on the theme of time and feelings we might have towards it. Some people wish for more time, others want to be able to turn it back, or some might not be impacted by it at all. The goal of this experience is for the players to shortly step into a different realm and feel the wonder of the universe, while simultaniously reflecting on their experience with time. We want to avoid giving an obsolete awnser and instead leave the players to come up with their own conclusion.

Vr game based on our Experience in Berlin

For a school project we had to make a game based on a shared experience. After having travelled to Berlin with our group, we decided to base our game around what we felt and experienced on our trip going through the different parts of the city. I created concept art for the area's and props that will be found throughout the environment, designed to evoke certain emotions in the players. Additionaly, I worked one of the areas out in 3D which you can find in the Unity tab.

Story

For a school project we had to make a game based on a shared experience. After having travelled to Berlin with our group, we decided to base our game around what we felt and experienced on our trip going through the different parts of the city.

Berlin has a deep but also recent history, the effects of which you can see today. The city was split in two halves, each developing different atmospheres and cultures.
During our trip we walked through a large city block that felt like it didn't fit. It was extremely busy and filled with advertisements and shops. Everything was made out of concrete and metal and it felt very oppressive to stand there.  However if you looked closely there would be hints to another side of the city.

After wandering around in that exhausting place we found small corridors and alleyways filled with graffiti, stickers and wall murals. There were plants growing and all different kinds of lights and lanterns hanging from wall to wall. This was a stark contrast to the monotonous big streets around the centre.

We wanted the player to experience these feelings, so I created concept art for the environments the player would explore. We wanted the city to be large and imposing but feel empty and depressing, but if you used the light to find the art hidden on the walls you'd make your way through the tunnels to a safe haven.
